Contesting a Will

If a will doesn't say what it should — or was made when it shouldn't have been — there are established routes to challenge it. We tell you plainly whether you have one, and what it's worth.

Confidential and free to use. Ai Guy® gives you a plain-English starting point and connects you with a solicitor. It is not legal advice.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

A claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 must be issued within six months of the date the grant — probate or letters of administration — is first taken out (the court can extend, but rarely). Validity challenges have no fixed limit but become much harder once the estate is distributed — so lodge a caveat at the Probate Registry early to stop a grant issuing while you investigate.
