How we help you
We write wills, administer estates and plan for inheritance tax for individuals, families and business owners across England and Wales. Our fees are published and quoted before we start: fixed fees for wills, powers of attorney and probate up to the grant; after the grant, our hourly rates and/or 1.5% of the estate's value, agreed with you first. A will is the document that controls who gets what when you die; we make sure it is valid, clear, and built around the tax and family questions that actually apply to you.
The work usually starts with one of three things: a will that holds up, a lasting power of attorney so someone can act for them if they lose capacity, or help dealing with an estate after a death. We also handle the harder cases — inheritance tax planning, trusts, and business succession where shares need to move cleanly between owners.
Because we are a commercial firm first, business owners get a joined-up answer. The cross-option agreement that funds your business succession sits next to your shareholders' agreement and your will, not in three separate silos. Clear advice, start to finish.
Matters we handle
Will writing (single & mirror)
A valid, clearly drafted will that says exactly who inherits and who runs your estate. Mirror wills for couples who want matching terms, with signing supervised so the formalities of the Wills Act 1837 are met.
Probate & estate administration
We obtain the grant of probate and deal with the full administration — collecting assets, settling debts and tax, and distributing to beneficiaries. Take the whole job off your hands, or just the grant application if you'd rather do the rest yourself.
Lasting powers of attorney
Both types: property & financial affairs, and health & welfare. Drafted and registered with the Office of the Public Guardian under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, so someone you trust can act if you can't.
Inheritance tax planning
Practical, lawful steps to reduce the 40% inheritance tax bill on your estate — using the nil-rate band, residence nil-rate band, lifetime gifts, exemptions and reliefs under the Inheritance Tax Act 1984. We show you the numbers before you decide.
Trusts
Trusts to protect assets for children, vulnerable beneficiaries, or a second-marriage family. We draft, advise on the tax treatment, and explain the trustees' duties — no jargon, no trust you don't need.
Business succession & cross-option agreements
Make sure your shares pass the way you want and your co-owners can buy them out. Cross-option agreements funded by life cover, drafted alongside your shareholders' agreement and your will so the three actually agree with each other.
